“Betting on Writing Your Book! --An Expert's How to Write a Book Step-by-Step Guide”
If you've ever had trouble motivating yourself to write your book, then I'm afraid you'll have to bid that problem goodbye. Here's the ultimate book-writing motivation strategy you've been looking for!
by Steve Manning
For some reason or for many reasons the biggest obstacle you face when you write your book is actually making it happen. People procrastinate relentlessly and just can't move it in cells to make their book a reality. That's what I did all of this tactic, this technique, that should make your days of July a thing of the past I've touched on it a few times but today I want to give you as much detail as possible. Get ready to become super motivated and write your book faster than you thought possible.
There is a truism in life: if you've got a big enough why, the how becomes obvious. Let's see if we can give you a big enough why to make your book a reality.
The first thing you'll need is another person who wants to write a book. It works best if you're both at the same level. By that I mean you're both half way through, or haven't written a thing, or have only an outline. And it also works best if you both really want to write your book. You want people who will participate, who will take things seriously and want to write their book as much as you want to write yours.
I've tried to urge people, I've tried to give them a big reason for writing their book, I've really tried to get authors to create their own reasons for wanting to write their book. If I give you a reason it's my reason and may not have any impact on you at all. The bigger the reason, the more successful you'll be. But a lot of the time those reasons don't come easily. You may be about to write chapters for your book that are necessary, but that really don't inspire you. Financial stuff does that with me.
So let's move on to one of the truly mammoth tools of motivation to make your book happen. Talk to the other person. Tell them you really want to write your book but motivation is a problem. If they're having the same problem, you've got a solution.
Offer to make a bet with that person that you will finish your book before they will. Or that you will accomplish whatever goals your both set before they do. Perhaps you tell them your outline will be finished before their outline. Or that you'll write a specific number of pages before they do. Whenever seems agreeable to them is what you should shoot for. But remember, the utimate goal is to write the book. If writing your book isn't the wager, it should be something that brings you closer to that objective.

The goal could be for something valuable. Say, a small amount of money, or a large amount of money. The larger the amount the greater the motivation contained in the bet. I'll bet you $1,000.00 that I will write my book before you do. Of course it doesn't have to involve money. It could be favors. You'll drive the kids to school, you will more their lawn, you'll give your friend four evenings of free babysitting, breakfast in bed for your spouse. There is no end to the variations you can use. Just make sure it's something you can live with, that you really don't want to do or give up, and that you're serious.
Make sure the goal, or bet, is outlined specifically. Finishing the book means a specific number of pages and a specific number of total words. And if you can, try to think of ways that people could fight the results and take advantage of the situation.
Next comes the deadline element. You're going to finish your book, or chapter, or page count by a specific date. Let's say in 30 days. This deadline concept is vitally important to the success of this strategy. You see, if you both become lazy, then the bet just dies a natural death with no consequences and you can both feel a little embarrassed but no harm has been done and no wager has been paid. Well, if neither one of you has accomplished the goal in 30 days, the debt will be automatically extended for an additional 30 days, and the amount that has been bet doubles as well. At the end of any term, in this case 30 days, either one of you has 24 hours to call off the bet and pay the original amount.
Finally you must have an arbitrator. This is the person you both trust and like. If there are any issues that come up, the arbitrator's decision is final. It's almost impossible to change the erms of an agreement after the fact. But if you've got an arbitrator in place who promises to be fair and that you can both agree on, there shouldn't be any problems.
You can also vary the bet if you want to. If one person is twice as good as the other at accomplishing a specific goal, your bet could reflect that. I'll write my book before you and if I don't I must cut your lawn twice as many times as you would cut mine. Or perhaps I have to write twice as much as you.
The magic of this whole strategy is that it increases your level of motivation dramatically. You can't simply say "I'll write a book," and then forget about what you said. Now competition exists. And from the very moment you start there's someone else who will benefit greatly if you don't write your book as you said you would.
Depending on how aggressive you want to be, you can create a "why" bigger than you ever thought possible.
Do it right in this motivation for writing your book will work every single time. You'll write more, completed more and achieve more. You can bet on it.
