“Achieving Your Ultimate Book-Writing Goal! --An Expert's How to Write a Book Step-by-Step Guide”
You've got to do a lot more than just write a single book if you want to reach your ultimate writing goal. Here's a look at what you should start thinking about!
by Steve Manning
Many authors believe that writing a single book is the ultimate goal. That's all they have to do. And the rest will take care of itself. Nothing could be further from the truth. The book you write is just the beginning, you have to start thinking about what your ultimate goal is. And it should be a lot more than just writing a book. You want to start creating a life and a lifestyle for yourself. And that means a lot more than a single book.
True, there are a handful of writers who simply write books. And make an excellent living from it. But you should start thinking of a lot more.
The problem with writing just one book is that your book has a shelf life. In the vast majority of cases you're not going to be able to sell it for years and years and years. Other books will be published. Other interests will intrigue your readers. And before you know it that one book is just a memory. It may give you a small amount of residual income each year, but that's about the best you can hope for.
You should be thinking about developing ancillary products. Not silly products like coffee cups or T-shirts, but products that will help you build an empire. Other books, information products, speeches, dvds, personal appearances, and much more. This is the beginning of your ultimate goal. You want to be known as more than just the author of a single book.
You should also realize that there's an overwhelming rule in our society. As P. T. Barnum said, people will spend their last nickel to be entertained. Johnny Carson, the late television host, asked an interviewer to consider how much he as a TV personality was paid compared to what the president of Harvard university was paid. And that would give you a clear understanding of the values of our society.
People want to be entertained and if you can inform while you're entertaining so much the better. Keep that in mind when you consider where your book is a leading.

Most of the truly intriguing individuals in our society reinvent themselves frequently. You can do one thing for short while and gain widespread notoriety short term. But if you're an author, you'll have to reinvent yourself and give everybody a constant stream of different ways to be intrigued by who you are and what you do
Start by realizing that you must be the greatest there is. Will there be others who can write better? Will there be others who can tell a story more effectively? Will there be others who are more informed about a subject? The answer is a resounding yes. But if you promote yourselves as the greatest there is, the world joins in your validation. And if you believe that fact, the world and those who support your products will respond as well.
People respond to their expectations. If they believe you're the greatest at what you do, then they will respond that way. Take three comedians. Give them the same joke, the same audience, and the same set of circumstances. There'll be no difference between the three. But the audience will still respond most favorably to the comedian with the greatest notoriety.
That's not the way it should be, but that is the way it is.
Your ultimate goal is to be a great writer. Work to achieve that. But realize that you'll have to reinvent yourself, create new books and new products, and promote yourself relentlessly to make that happen
