“The Simplest, Cheapest and Most Effective Book-Writing Tool Ever Created!
--An Expert's How to Write a Book Step-by-Step Guide”

Want a sure-fire tool for writing your book and solving all the book-writing problems you cold have? Here's how!
by Steve Manning

There's a simple tool to ensure that you write your book. It's a strategy that works time and time again, not just for writing books, but for just about any endeavour you want to take on. It works because it's persistent, relentless, gives you just enough encouragement, motivation, irritation and frustration And the sole goal is to make sure you succeed with the writing of your book. Let me give you the details…

No matter what you want to do in life, it's not easy to do it alone. Little difficulties become seemingly insurmountable. Procrastination becomes paralyzing. And it's oh so easy to lose your motivation. I noticed this when I was talking to a University professor about first-year students. They always seemed to be lost until they started using this single, important strategy.

When they started studying with a close friend or colleague, their results started to go up. Slowly at first, but then ever faster, until they bore absolutely no resemblance to where they had started. Lose weight with a friend, exercise with a friend, kick a habit with a friend and the going is always easier when you have a friend there to support, encourage and even berate if that's necessary.

For the longest time, Marine Corp brass wondered why Marines who performed so well in the Corp, didn't have the same kind of success when they embraced civilian life. Their discipline was already in place, they had the tenacity and mindset of super achievers. The answer was ultimately found to be pretty simple. When they were in the Marine Corp they were surrounded by others, and those others had specific and demanding expectations for their colleagues. Remove the colleagues and you remove the expectations. Remove the expectations and you remove the motive for achievement.

The same strategy can be used when you write your book. I'm not saying you have to be a former Marine, you just have to set up a support system that will pull you, kicking and screaming, to the level of success you want.

That can be a simple as finding another writer with your own sense of urgency and commitment to the success of writing a book. They want to write their book, and you want to write yours. You can set up regular face-to-face meetings with each other, at least twice a week, and discuss any problems, challenges or obstacles to your writing of your book. Remember, at least twice a week, and someone must have died to legitimize a missed meeting. Phone calls three times a week. How much have you written since we last talked. How much are you committed do writing before we talk again. How can we make it easier for ourselves?

No, you're not allowed to read each other's writing. That would require subjective opinion and always ends in someone feeling bad, and wanting to get even.

Your writing buddy, for lack of a better term, should be as much a mirror image of you as a writer as possible. You're both trying to write the same number of words a day. You're writing in the same genre, you're both working on your second novel, or your first ebook. Same gender, that will make things less complicated. Both of you are married with a full-time job, or single, or retired, or athletes, or have a common interest in stamps.

If you can find your exact writing double, that's great, but you're more like to have to make some compromises. That's okay, too, as long as you feel you're moving ahead.

The number one rule: you must both commit to writing a specific number of words before you talk again. Everything else can be worked around, except this. The overwhelming objective of this buddy system is that your book must move forward. When you begin, make this the standing rule: if either of you fails to write the required number of words, twice in a row, the writing relationship must be ended. No questions, no appeals, even if you both want it to continue, it must end. And both of you are free to find another writing buddy.

So where do you find these writing match ups? Go to every writing group, professional and non-professional, in your area. Scour local papers, the nearby library and the internet to find writing circles, writing association chapters and local authors who might want to participate.
