“The Six Power Keys to Writing Your Book!
--An Expert's How to Write a Book Step-by-Step Guide”

There are hundreds of rules and suggestions, but if you follow these six power keys to writing your book, you'll be leaps and bounds ahead of where you are right now!
by Steve Manning

If I had to boil the rules of writing a book down to just six, here's what they'd be. But don't be put off by their brevity. Each one is a powerhouse for your book writing success

Know the kind of book you want to write. There are as many different books as there are authors and each has a specific structure. Before you start writing, understand what kind of book you want to write. Thriller? Mystery? Romance? Nonfiction? Each has a traditional page count, structure and, for lack of a better word, formula. If you know what kind of book you are going to write before you start, you'll have an excellent idea of precisely how long it will be and the kind of twists and turns your book will offer if it's fiction, and what, information is needed if you're writing nonfiction.

Create an outline. Probably the biggest problem people have when they write their book is that once they're past the first few pages, once the excitement of the start wanes, they have no idea how to carry on.

They don't know where the story goes, or even what the plot will be. And that's when most people give up. If you're going to write a book, you must know what you'll be writing on every page before you ever start. Only then will writing your book become what it should be; a simple process of putting down what comes into your mind, guided by what you want to appear on the page.

You can't just leave that to chance, and you can forget about the story magically unfolding right before your eyes on the screen. It just doesn't happen that way. But if you start writing your book with the knowledge of what will appear on every page, there is no more procrastination, writer's block becomes a thing of the past, and you're only limitation becomes how quickly you can put the words down on the page.

Write every day on a schedule. Any time you're awake is a great time to write. But there are those who truly believe they write better in the morning, or evening, or some time in between. That has no more truth than the story of the plumber who can fix pipes only in the morning or when the muse sits upon his shoulder.

But I'm not going to argue with you. I only suggest that if morning is your time to write then you schedule that time to write. Put it down in your appointment book. Actually schedule the writing time for yourself. It's no less important than anything else you do and probably much more important than most. If you write only when the mood suits you, you'll write far less than you could and, eventually, your writing will cease altogether.

Write quickly. The faster you write the better you will write. It's not a trick. It's a basic law of writing. The faster you write the more you'll write the way you talk. And if you write the way you talk, you're writing will naturally sound more conversational. Readers will enjoy what you've produced, and there won't be a question of run-on sentences, convoluted messages, or incoherent ideas.

Do not edit yourself. You can't perfect something unless it already exists. If you're constantly changing, rewriting, trying to improve, altering, scratching out or crumpling up and starting again, you'll never make any headway.

Will your writing be perfect the first time out? No, of course not. But whatever level of quality you writing has, this is far superior to the writing that never sees the light of day because it was constantly changed by the author. If you must, you can go back at a later date and make all the changes you want. Usually you won't remember what they were and can't see any reason to make changes when you read your work weeks after.

When you write a book your first goal is to write a book, not rewrite the book.

Always use deadlines. If I give someone all the time in the world to do something that's precisely how much time they'll need, all the time in the world. If you work with deadlines, real or self imposed, a lot more work is achieved in a much shorter time. You've probably also noticed that the closer you get to a deadline the more productive you become. So use lots of deadlines and don't be afraid to use deadlines of just a few minutes.

Don't actually have a book ready to sell yet and don't want to put it together yourself? There's Amazon's related companies, Booksurge.com., and CreateSpace.com. They'll help you design and create your book, and then print it one copy at a time if you want.

So how do you get that book of yours moving into the hands of readers? The two most effective methods are both powerful and cost just pennies (and you can bet you'd be doing exactly the same thing regardless whether your book was self published, or published by a major industry player). Speak to audiences, and do radio interviews. Set a goal for yourself of one audience and one radio show every day.

In an upcoming article I'll be showing you how to get an unceasing supply of audiences who really want to hear what you have to say about your book. As for radio programs http://www.WriteABookNow.com/promotebookinunderwear.html is the article that will give you a huge amount of information there.
