“The Secret of Writing a Fortune in the Recession! --An Expert's How to Write a Book Step-by-Step Guide”
If you're a writer, it's time to cash in on the coming recession, and make that happen faster than you ever thought possible!
by Steve Manning
If you're a writer, get ready to become wealthy in the recession. If you follow these simple strategies, your income is going to double, triple, even quadruple to at least six figures. Let's get started…
Your first step is to get the highest revenue for your writing efforts.
Whatever writing you're doing right now, you've got to decide whether you're going to stay with it, or make the jump. You want to be writing the material that will give you maximum return for your efforts. For most writers that means commercial writing, direct mail, that sort of thing.
If the idea of writing direct mail bothers you, no problem. The line for poverty forms on the left. If you're already making big bucks writing fiction or non-fiction, teleplays or jokes, great. The rest of this article still applies, but you've already found your highest value work. For just about every other writer, it's direct mail or commercial writing (web pages that sell, that sort of thing).
Next, you send a thank-you card to each of your current customers. Get ready, you're going to be sending a thank-you card to each of your current and prospective customers every month.
This is all robot work. Each thank you card will contain your business card (or three).
Don't have any customers? No problem. Open up the yellow pages for your area or much farther afield if you want, Google works, too. Really, you can easily go national or farther with this strategy. Make a list of 20 companies who may be using direct mail or commercial writing. You'll be finding 20 new ones every day.
Call their head office and ask for the person in charge of marketing.
Time for a little unabashed, self promotion: If you haven’t asked for my Free CD, “How to Write a Book On Anything in 14 Days Guaranteed!” then you’re just plain nuts! "Hi, this is Steve Manning calling (use your own name, please). I'm a freelance writer in Fargo, North Dakota. Could you give me the name, please, of the person who's in charge of marketing?"
Got their name? Great! Ask to be connected.
"Hi, Mildred, this is Steve Manning calling (use your own name, please). I'm a freelance writer in Fargo, North Dakota. Do you ever use direct mail in your business?"
If she says absolutely not, well, that's the end of that conversation. If she says anything, and I mean anything, else, then make sure you've got the write spelling of her name and the correct mailing address.
Send her a thank you card with a couple of your business cards in it. And then send her your most powerful tool: a sales letter with the headline, "Your next piece of powerful direct mail copy isn't going to cost you a dime—because I'm going to write it for you ABSOLUTELY FREE!"
Now you produce a letter that tells her how important her success is, why she really wants the most powerful direct mail writing possible, how good you are and why you're going to give her this gift absolutely free—you want her to see the kind of work you can do for her and you want her to become a very happy, on-going customer. The fastest, most effective way for you to do this is to make the first job free.
Follow the letter with a phone call to Mildred (remember, you're doing this with 20 new companies a day) and just say, "Mildred, I'm the person who sent you a letter telling you that I'm going to write your next piece of direct mail absolutely free! Now, how can I help you?"
Unless you think you're wasting your time with Mildred, send her a thank you card every month and follow it up with a telephone call saying exactly this. And then every third month, send her that Absolutely Free sales letter of yours.
My guess is that in 60 days you'll be absolutely overwhelmed with lucrative assignments. My personal experience is that you'll be up to your eyeballs in 30 days or less!
