I admit it. I've been living under a rock the last few years. I've just seen my first episode of the television program, '24.' If you've been similarly negligent, I'll fill you in by telling you that this is a fast paced thriller series with spies, terrorists, intrigue, deception at the highest levels of international governments and thousands of innocent people are regularly pressed to the precipice of impending doom.
In short, it's an instruction manual for writing great books. And here's what you'll learn if you carefully untangle the threads of this media and make it the stuff that books are made from.
In seems like every 10 minutes or so, we're introduced to a new cliff hanger, but a big cliffhanger at the end of each episode.
That isn't new, it's the same stuff that all book serials had many years ago. It's also the stuff that Flash Gordon presented at the local movie theatre each week as well as what we found in comic books. Later on , the budget was bigger with Star Wars as well as Indiana Jones. But the strategy was the same… and it works every time.
With books, you'll see the same stuff in just about every big blockbuster.
So how do you do it easily with your book? No problem. You've already got the algorithm of your book. You know what's going to happen, and when and to whom, and you've got virtually the page number on which it happens.

Your objective is to replace most of the mundane scenes with blockbuster cliffhangers that will keep the reader turning the page.
I've just finished reading a great mystery novel that was well crafted, well characterized, well thought out and a great little story. I'll tell you now that I could (and you could, too) easily make that story 100 per cent better by beefing up most of those mundane scenes in the book with cliffhangers.
Now, let me tell you what those cliffhangers are. Got a pen? Okay, here we go…
A particularly gruesome murder, a gratuitous act of violence, the ticking time bomb, realizing a betrayal, hearing only one side of a secret telephone call, an obvious lie, a blackmail proposal, orders given to kill someone, a no-way-out disaster, a chase (Any vehicle, even on foot, will do, but be careful, a chase using donkeys is comical no matter how you do it), having to make a choice between two disasters, coming face to face with what the character fears most, suddenly losing what you've been chasing all novel long, chasing a deadline (emphasis on "dead"line), making the wrong decision in a life or death situation, watching your plan (or your weapon) shatter before you can use it, being unjustly accused, train, plane or automobile wreck, incredibly bad luck, being caught in a lie, someone wants you dead because of a past transgression…
There's an endless number of them. But these 20 or so will get you started. Remember there are only about 50 or so scenes in a book, so you could easily turn your book into an emotional roller coaster by using one for every two scenes.
This is the technique that will put your reader on the edge of their seat. It's the thrills, spills and chills you'll find in any entertainment 'event' worth paying the price of admission for.
Using them isn't difficult. Write the book first, have the story in place, and then put in all these cliffhangers.
You'll have to justify each one first (you can't just have a giant spider appear from out of the closet without some rationale). And you'll have to resolve each one some time later in the story, (The 800 lb. spider, a product of Alfred's mind, vanished as soon as he left the room.)
I hope by now you can see that even the most pedestrian of stories or plots can become truly amazing and riveting if you add a large number of excitement elements to your book.
And you should also realize by now that the writing system I've developed, will help you write your book faster than you ever thought possible. That's especially true since I've added the book coaching element that actually has me calling you and ensuring that you're getting the success you wanted.
