--An Expert's How to Write a Book Step-by-Step Guide”

By using a simple principle, known to the business world for hundreds of years, you can sell more books than you ever thought possible, for less effort than you ever dreamed of!
by Steve Manning

There are all sorts of things you can do to market your book effectively. You can do book signings, speak before audiences, radio interviews, internet marketing, teleseminars, work with book reviewers and so much more. Dozens of book promotional ideas should be flooding into your mind even as we talk.

But which one works best for you, your book, your subject, your geography, your special challenges and needs. Everyone is different, and every book is different. Now, let me digress for a bit of book marketing magic. Call it mindfreak for the manuscript.

Most business people know, or understand Pireto's principle. The Italian economist recognized that 80% of the wealth was held by 20% of the population. It has since been expanded to embrace just about every input and output. About 80% of the business comes from 20% of the clients. And about 80% of the output comes from just 20% of the input.

To put this into book-marketing speak, 80% of your book sales will result from about 20% of your book-marketing efforts. Now, there's nothing magic about these two numbers. It could be 75-25, or 90-10. It doesn't even have to add up to 100. Perhaps 85% of your sales come from 20% of your efforts. Why it works is irrelevant. Know that it just does. But what's even more important is that it is a strategy that is relentless and doesn't stop.

So if you're willing to agree that 80% of your book sales come from 20% of your book-marketing efforts, your most important job is to find out what that 20% is. Do more of it and dump the 80% of your marketing efforts that just aren't giving you the results you want.

If you take that 20% and do nothing but that, you will have increased your book sales results by 4X (5x80=400%). Whenever you market your book, whatever you do, take note of the results. What worked, what didn't. What worked really well and what was a complete waste of time.

Let's suppose that teleseminars drive your book sales through the roof, but radio interviews have no effect at moving your title at all. When you notice that, regardless of the suggestions you get from publishers and PR specialists, you should clear the decks and commit yourself to doing as many teleseminars as you possibly can.

Now remember, I said that this strategy is relentless and doesn't stop. And for the sake of easy math, let's deal with the numbers 80 and 20. You've just recognized that 20% of your efforts give you 80% of your book sales. Stick with me because your book marketing is about to become unstoppable.

Twenty per cent of your efforts give you 80% of your results. So 20% of that 20% will give you 80% of that 80%. To make it understandable for you, 4% of all your book-marketing efforts will give you 64% of your book-sales results. Teleseminars are great for you, but there are some teleseminars that are even better for you than others. That's the 4% you've got to target.

To give you some perspective from the real world, if you work a 40-hour week, you can get 64% of all your week's productivity in just 1 hour and 36 minutes, if you focus on the activity that will give you the highest payoff!

Of course, if you wanted to take it one step further, you could get more than half of your book sales resulting from less than 20 minutes work each week. Now you can see why this is truly a magical book-marketing method.
