“Secrets to Getting Great Book Distribution! --An Expert's Step-by-Step Guide”
“Your Book Can Be Available Everywhere!!”
Too many authors think that once the book is at the publisher, they’ve done all they can for the distribution of their book. Now it’s up to the publisher to make that happen.
And if their book is self-published, they think the holy grail is getting their book into the warehouse of one of the two national distributors.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
The fact is, you’ve got to work hard to create a pull with your book. You’ve got to have bookstores calling their distributor and asking for the book to be sent to their locations… because people keep asking for it and they don’t have it.
By the way, when a bookstore manager sees a customer walk away empty handed, they know they’re looking at a lot of money that should have been in their bank account, but instead it left the building.
So, if you want to create a ‘pull’ for your book, start with where you are and use what you have.
Those radio station interviews will have people going to the bookstore and asking for your book. But you can also chop up your book into 450-word articles and make them available to article directories. Your resource box will direct people either to your own website where you sell the book, or the local bookstore where they can pick up your precious tome.
Work with those on the internet who already have significant lists and give them something special if they’ll work with you to promote the book. In fact, this is how most of the books on Amazon.com (with the exception of Harry Potter) get to their number 1 spot. They have 20 or 30 internet people sending out book information to half a million or so potential buyers, all on the same day!
Wherever you can get publicity for your book, that’s where you should be heading. No paper is too small, no internet website too tiny, no media outlet should be overlooked.
Get people interested in your book, supply them with all the details they need to make a decision. This will cause them to head for the bookstore in droves and relentlessly ask for your book.
Believe me, the sale of your book will be a lot easier if you have bookstores asking for copies of your book, rather than you going around to bookstores asking to put your book on their shelves.
