“The Five Steps to Write Your Book Deadline!
--An Expert's How to Write a Book Step-by-Step Guide”

Get ready to walk over to that wall calendar and actually point to the day your book will be done!
by Steve Manning

How'd you like to know exactly when your book will be finished, how quickly you'll create each chapter, and actually be able to go over to that calendar on your wall and point to the day you'll be finished writing your book? No guesswork, no more "I'll be finished when I'm finished, no more blank stares at people who ask you when you'll completed your book, and no more embarrassment about that book you started years ago, but are still no closer to finishing it.

Well, that's what you're going to master with this article and I sincerely hope you take this information and make it your own. If you do, you'll put an entirely new face on your writing task. It won't be something that goes on forever. You'll know exactly when your book will be ready to go to your agent, or your publisher.

First, some basic logistic steps for any book you write. If your book is non-fiction, it will be 200 pages in length. Can it be longer or shorter? Of course, but this is the number to shoot for. If you're writing a genre fiction, like romance or western, or science fiction, take a look at the books you've been reading and give yourself an average number of pages. The big blockbuster best seller, that's 400 pages in length.

Most of my students rally against this kind of structure. Get over it. If you've got more information, more story, more plot that 200 pages can hold, that's nice. Your book will still be 200 pages in length if that's the length you've determined for your book. Save the additional material for your next book.

Step two, realize that your chapters will be 10 pages in length. Don't argue, work to this number. It's far easier in the long term if you do.

Step three, each page, regardless of how you write it, print it or produce it, is about 300 words.

Step four, if you know what you want to say, if you've spent the required time creating your blueprint and your outline, you should easily be able to write 200 words in just five minutes. If you can't do it initially, you will be able to quickly if you keep at it. What you want to avoid is sitting in your chair, eyes gazing upwards, pen tapping on the desk, wondering what you want to write next. That's a real waste of time. Your objective is to write 200 words if you write for just five minutes.

Now, that means your 10-page chapter has 300 words per page for a total of 3,000 words. If you write 200 words every five minutes, that chapter should take you about 75 minutes of writing. Now, not all in one go. I don't want you to hurt yourself. You can break up the writing however you want. But 75 minutes of writing will give you one chapter. If you have a 20-chapter book, that's 1500 minutes of writing, or 25 hours.

Now let's go on to the all important step five. You must decide, depending on your lifestyle, the demands life has place on your time, your enthusiasm, and so many other factors, and then determine how much time you want to spend on your writing each day.

Did you notice I said, 'each day.' Yep, if you're committed to writing your book, and you want to write your book as easily as possible, you've got to start thinking that you want to write every day. Don't think you can do all your writing on the weekend, because you're just too busy through the week.

Okay, here's an example. You want to write a 200-page book. That's a project that requires 1500 minutes of writing. And you can commit to writing just 20 minutes each day. Maybe just before you start work, or part of your lunch hour, or 20 minutes you free up each evening.

Even at this relatively slow rate, you can complete this book in just 75 days. Of course, if you can commit to write for just 110 minutes each day, (granted, that does require some personal scheduling and even making appointments with yourself) your book is finished in less that 14 days.

Whatever numbers you use, however you determine your scheduling, for the first time in your writing life you'll actually be able to go to that calendar, point to that specific date in the very near future and say, with certainty, that your book will be ready at that moment.
