“The Five Best Methods for Book Promotion! --An Expert's How to Write a Book Step-by-Step Guide”
Here's how to write your book and then produce, publish, promote and profit for just pennies!
by Steve Manning
Are you ready for it? Can you stand the anticipation? Here are the five most effective ways of promoting your book once you have it published, regardless of how you have it published. I've chosen these strategies for one very important reason, they give the biggest bang for the buck, and in most cases, there's no buck involved at all.
But before we start, you should know there are as many ways of promoting the book you write as there are authors who have written a book. Just a couple of hours ago I came across a book that showed in great detail some 75 different ways to promote your book. And one very talented book promoter has a book that tells of 1001 different ways to promote your book. Kudos to both of them. Many authors have benefited from their efforts.
But I am both realist and minimalist. I can't think of anyone, major publishers included, who has the time, or the logistical ability to handle more than a handful of book-promotion strategies at the same time.
Trying to do more than five things at once reminds me of that plate spinner who used to appear on old variety shows. He'd get one plate spinning on an upright stick, two, five, nine, then he'd have to dash back to the first to give it more momentum. Ten, 12, 15. Now two through five needed help. Sixteen. Then back to six, now one again. By the time 20 plates were spinning simultaneously, it looked like china chaos and became more farce than feature with each additional effort.
So it is with book promotion. Concentrate on the five that give you the most results for your time and shun the rest. If someone tells you they can get you’re a speaking engagement in front of a class of grade 10 students, you reply, "Sorry, that's not in my promotion plan for the book." There are better ways to spend your time.
Next, make sure your book is being carried by Amazon.com, either literally with five copies in their inventory, or with their print on demand capability.

However you promote your book, you want people to be able to buy your book. Amazon.com means it's available to everyone in the world who has an internet connection. If people go into bricks and mortar bookstores and ask for it, it can be ordered.
These are the five that will give you the most sales in the shortest amount of time, but that isn't the only criteria for you. Perhaps you really like doing radio interviews, but hate selling face to face. Well, put more time into the strategy you like and you'll get better results.
The situation you must guard against is putting a lot of your time into a promotion technique and getting only limited results. No matter how much you like that technique, stop it now. Your time is better spent elsewhere.
Finally, you've got to realize that if your book is to be a success, this isn't a strategy that you should 'consider.' It's an essential. Books don't fly off the shelves by themselves. You’ve got to sell them. And that means you should promote your book relentlessly, but only by using the strategies that give you the biggest return for the smallest investment of resources. You must promote, promote and promote again.
Realize also that these promotion strategies are cumulative. You do one, and that will lead to second in the same category, which leads to a third. And by that time, like the plate spinner, you can go back to the first and do it again.
First, sell to your own list. The folks who know you and like you will always be the people who buy from you. If you're smart, you're accumulating a list of names and emails even as we speak, on the topic you're so passionate about. If you haven't started, start immediately.
Send them an email telling them about your new book. They can read all about it on your web page, and then include a link to that page. Don't hesitate to send this same email out to your list at least once a month. Just a few clicks of the keyboard and you've making sales relentlessly. And quite a few, too, depending on the size of your list.
Sell with internet partners. Ever read about those books that hit the top of the Amazon list overnight! Here's how it's done. Start acquiring internet friends and contacts now. When you're ready, each of them will promote your book to their list along with digital products that each of the group will throw in as a free premium. Buy the book and get 10 free bonuses with a value of hundreds of dollars. It's an offer that's hard to refuse. The book buyers email you with proof of purchase and you send them all the bonuses. Those bonuses have marketing information for each of the participants, so everyone wins. Help me make my book number 1 on Amazon, and it works time and time again.
Sell the book as a premium. If you've just written a book about getting your first career job after college, maybe Budweiser would like to buy 10,000 copies as premiums they can give away with their product. A romance set in Ireland? The Irish Tourism Board, or Air Lingus might be great candidates. This is pure selling. But you're not selling your book one at a time. You're selling it by the truckload!
Joint ventures. Usually they take the form of internet teleseminars. Want to know how easy it is? Hey, if you've got a book you've written and published, I've got tens of thousands of people who want to know the details of how you did it.
Radio interviews. Do just one a day, that's all, and you'll be duplicating the entire marketing strategy of the Chicken Soup for the Soul book.
