“How
YOU can Create Your Own Book Idea in Record Time! --An Expert's Step-by-Step Guide”
“Your Book Idea Practically Creates
Itself!!”
Don’t have a book idea? No problem. I’ll show you how to get one very quickly.
Of course, I really don’t know if you’re writing fiction or non-fiction, so I’ll have to cover both. Not to worry. I hope that in the next few weeks you’ll be writing both. And coming up with a non-stop stream of book ideas that you can use to become a book-writing machine!
Let’s start with non-fiction.
Your book topic should be something you’re either familiar with, or would really like to be familiar with. The former means you already have the information in your head (or thereabouts). The latter means you’ll be only to happy to do the research to get the information you need.
Of course, it will do you no good to have a book topic that no one wants to read! So here’s how to get the topic most likely to succeed.
If you have several topics swimming around in your head, write them down on a piece of paper. Start showing the list to friends, colleagues, relatives, even perfect strangers will do. And ask them which topic they’d most want to read about.
I do this a lot at my seminars when I’m preparing an upcoming book. You see, the folks in the audience are already there because they want to write a book. So when I present them with a list of topics, I know that this is my market talking to me. I should also tell you that the topics they choose are rarely the ones I was hoping for. But, the market speaks and you have to follow their advice if you want to give yourself thegretest chance for success.
After showing this list to just a few hundred people, a clear winner will have emerged. That’s the topic you want to go for. You can use the same strategy for creating a title for your book, by the way. Very effective.
If you simply don’t have enough folks to give you a good indication of what topic to go for, then you might want to consider Google as a resource.
Go to Google.com and search each of the topics. When you do, and the results come up, take a look at the ads on the right side of the page. The more ads, the more popular that topic.
Time for fiction. You probably already know the genre you want to write. (horror, thriller, romance, western, etc.) So here’s the next step for getting a story idea for your novel.
First, get yourself down to the local book idea shop…
Don’t have one in your neighbourhood? Well, they’re often known as a ‘used book store’ in many areas.
Find a book that is five to 10 years of age. And make sure that right on the front cover it says “National Best Seller.” You don’t want a book that was written by “the bestselling author of” another book. You want the book in your hands to be a best seller.
This means that the book has been written, edited and published (so publishers are likely to enjoy the plot) and that the book has gone out into the market. Even better, the market thought so highly of the plot that they bought the book in droves and made it a best seller.
That means you’re holding in your hands a best selling plot. No doubts, no questions, no hesitation or ambiguity. The plot in that book is a best selling plot.
Now what do you do? Buy the book, and read it. Then write down the plot as briefly, but as completely as you can.
This is the plot you’re going to use.
Take it easy, I didn’t say this was the book you were going to use. I just said this was the plot you were going to use.
Take the plot and change every extraneous item you possible can change. Change the time, change the place, change the characters, change the genre, change the mood, change the item being sought (there’s always an item being sought. Hitchcock called it the ‘McGuffin’.)
If it’s a romance, make it a western, if it’s a western, make it science fiction. If the characters are men, make them women, or animals, or dinosaurs, or wolves, or martians. If it happens in the past, yours will happen in the future. If it happens in California, make it happen in New York, or Belgium, or Korea.. I think you get the idea.
When you’re done with the changes, you’ll have a bestselling book idea, guaranteed, and you’re well on your way to writing your successful book in record time!
